I haven’t seen Melancholia, but goddamn, Charlize Theron gave a brilliant performance in Young Adult. Like, stunningly brilliant. Never has a scowl been so judgmental and unhappy and scheming at the same time; with that scowl she radiated disappointment while at the same time radiating absolute bewilderment that someone like her would be consigned to a life of disappointment. Should have made her “likable,” I guess.
